Just Simple and Classic

I can never get over the crisp, clean lines of black and white. I thrifted this silk shirt at the Hospice center and had to alter the buttons on the sleeves. They were a bit too tight so I opted to connect the open sleeves with some black sheer ribbon that is decorated with small, black, sequined flowers. Very subtle and went with the delicate shirt. Cigarette pants are the best! I love how I feel like Audrey Hepburn with the cropped ankle and flats. Super fun. I snapped a few pictures on a walk down to the park with my son. We stopped and looked at cool stuff on the ground along the way. Lots of fun and a good way to wind down from a hectic day at work. Have a great weekend everyone!

On Trend: Men's Wear

I love the idea of men's wear for a fall trend this year! It is loads of fun and unfortunately, I am still searching for the perfect men's inspired wingtip dress shoes. I can't seem to find ones that hug my foot enough. I end up having this horrid gap around my ankles on each shoe. Anyone know of a great pair? I've tried on millions (it feels like it) and have had about 4 failed attempts at ordering them online.
Well, I didn't even think twice when I saw this tie at the thrift store. I have no idea if it is a men's tie or if it is an old 1990's women's wear item. I might be channeling Andrea Zuckerman via 90210 here, but it felt great. I love when outfits make me smile! And I got a few compliments. My boss was digging it and told me it was quite stylish. Who knew? I was surprised. I thought I would hear some more backhanded comments or funny looks. I think my coworkers just kind of expect something different from me and they don't really seem to be that shocked anymore at what I wear! I liked it and that's what matters most, right? I say, take a chance with men's wear inspired outfits this fall and experiment with lots of different looks! Androgyny is the word for the day!

Banana Pants

I was hesitant at first because I looked in the mirror and thought I resembled a banana a little too much. The brown shoes...the green shirt. I might have well been hanging on the tree. But - I went ahead with it. When I saw these pants I immediately fell in love with them because of my obsession with yellow and how it makes me feel happy. Its the same way when I walk into a room or see a house that is painted yellow. I immediately feel cheery and awake. One of my favorite houses we've looked at on this never ending house hunt we're on right now was painted yellow in the kitchen and living room. So sweet!

I started to lose the sun...but my pants took it's place :)
One of my favorite snacks is sliced bananas with peanut butter and chocolate chips sprinkled on top...hmmm...I would make those right now but I'm in dire need of a grocery store trip!

All Work and No Play

The Labor Day weekend unofficially wraps up the end of summer but officially wraps up the end of my summer schedule of having half day Fridays off. I'm a little bummed about that because it was my day to do some thrift shopping, errands, cleaning house (more thrifting than cleaning house) and general relaxation before the weekend craziness. But, alas, those days are over. My pocketbook probably thanks me! So here I am on a full day Friday trying not to crave that 1:00 glory time when I used to run out of the office as fast as I could without looking back. I've got a few things lined up this weekend for my little man and me. I think I will take Riley to the lake tomorrow and to a festival downtown on Sunday. It's called LAAFF or Lexington Avenue Arts and Fun Festival. It is so much fun because lots of people wear costumes and generally be free and silly. There is a ton of music, contests and a general good time for all to be had. I'm excited about that. And the lake will be a good closing to the summer. They filmed parts of the movie Dirty Dancing at Lake Lure so I think its a pretty sweet place.
Back to reality - this is a work outfit that I kicked around for a day. Green is my favorite color and I picked this silky top up at a resale shop for a $1 making it fantastic on top of it being green!

Red Stripe Red Circle

Happy Monday to all! I had a wonderful wonderful weekend! I did not want it to end. I got another birthday surprise on Sunday! Brian and I stopped to eat lunch a few towns away halfway through a long motorcycle ride. When we walked into the restaurant there was my mom, stepdad, aunt, brother and his fiance! It was soooooooo great! We had a great time talking, eating, catching up and eating some more! Brian and I were stuffed which made it really hard to get back on the bike. I got some excellent presents for the fall and a sweet dvd from my brother that might be pictures of us as kids in a slideshow...I've not watched it yet but he is known for doing that. I'm building myself up for crying puddles of tears.
This outfit was a casual Friday work outfit. I don't really wear jeans a great deal because I don't think they are the most flattering on me. I do have quite a bit of junk in the trunk ladies. Anyway, the red metal wheels behind this store really caught my eye. Riley, my son, helped me during the shoot. You'll see his final photo as well...He is a photo ham!

P.S. And thanks to all of you for all of the birthday wishes! You guys rock!

P.P.S. I am working on a giveaway for whenever I reach 15 followers. I will keep you up to date on what the item will be. Have a great week! ♥

and here he is doing a pose of his own (this is all him - I gave no directions!)

Fishies and Grandmothers

Look at these little fish! I think they're precious. I found these pants at the Hospice thrift store here in town. Hospice is a charity organization that offers care to elderly, young - really anyone - who is terminally ill or nearing their final days on this earth. I feel good about purchases that I make there because I remember when my grandmother was very sick and getting close to the end of her life and Hospice was amazing to her. They really helped keep her comfortable and pain free. My mom was impressed by the care and attention they gave her. Unfortunately, I no longer have the chance to talk to my grandmother since she did pass away. But I have a few things of hers and it makes me proud to have them. Some of her beautiful dishes and some of her mother's crochet work that I shared with you guys recently.
I hope all of you had a good Monday. I actually had a great day! Considering Mondays are on my "hated-it!" list. Brian and I found a great house to put on our list of possibilities. We are waiting to get an appointment to go take a gander inside. It has a lot of charm and I think it is quite precious. I'm hoping the inside is what I think it is. Hopefully we won't find any secret disasters. It is in a great neighborhood (not far from where I am now) where we can walk to lots of shops, pubs and restaurants. I love the idea of walking wherever we want to go relax. I've never had that luxury!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy these little fishies as much as I do.

Workin' Blues

This morning I woke up against my will and immediately thought, "I need a day off". But I just had 2 days off. But it was for a beach trip. A very hot beach trip. Full of sand and a three year old. I'm talking about a day off. I don't want to have anything I need to do that day. Unless it is a massage appointment. Or raiding thrift stores that are a few towns away. That's the kind of day I need. Let's see...I do get Labor Day off. Whine whine..that's sooooo far away.
