Recreating Goldie's Outfit

Remember my last post? Well, I am still obsessed with Goldie Hawn's outfits from Housesitter...so I just HAD to recreate one of the looks! To be honest, I'm probably not going to stop at just one recreation! I'm kinda obsessed.

Here's a clip from the movie where the inspo came from:

I just shopped my own closet! I love her sweatshirt 10x more than mine but that just gives me something to thrift the next time I'm at the thrift store!

I had the boots, I had the jeans, I had a brooch (not a gold one though...another thing to thrift!)

Dodging Acorns Girl

Dress & Scarf: Thrifted, Heels: Forever21, Tights: Modcloth

Why do I do this fashion blogging thing?

I love fashion and I have always loved it. I enjoy putting together outfits and seeing what I come up with. I don't get "dressed up" every day and you've seen me in jeans and t shirts a few times here on the blog but I do it a lot more than I probably feature. My main reason behind fashion blogging is that is a fun hobby that keeps me from getting bored with the monotonous routine of getting ready for work M-F. I don't have a creative job whatsoever (just a paper pusher) so I use clothes as an artistic outlet. Like taking a canvas and choosing your color palette and deciding what shapes you want to paint that day. It keeps me from getting bored and gives me a way to express myself. Clothes and shoes are not my main concern, just something to keep it fun while I am at work and spending time with family, friends and people that I love.

Dodging acorns you say? While I was taking these photos acorns were falling all around. I just knew that I was going to get pelted in the head as soon as the camera clicked. But I didn't! It was kind of a really nice sound. Like autumn was official and was here to stay.

Trio of Bows Girl

Dress: Etsy via Starr, Sweater: Gift, Vest: Thrifted, Moccasins: Minnetonka

Wow was it ever fall on Saturday! We had a birthday party to crash at 12:00 and this is what I wore. It was for Brian's sweet little grandma Miss Ruby. We all had a good time and I ate too much pizza and then topped it off with a cupcake. Don't tell.

Believe it or not - actually, believe it! - I thrifted this vest with a matching skirt. I stopped at wearing the two together since it would look a little too Pocahontas, but it would make a good Halloween costume! I'll have to pair the skirt up soon. It is such a rich, chestnut color. Yumm...makes me think of caramel...and apples...

I love the trio of bows

Super Casual Girl

Jeans: Family Dollar, Suzuki Tee Shirt: Gift, Pink Tank Top: ?, Tennies: Converse

Jeans and a tee shirt - sometimes you just gotta do it. My son and I took a few minutes to relax down at the lake. It was such a beautiful day. I hate to let those days go by without trying to soak up some sun. We played in the park, played near the lake and then I watched him play with some other kiddos while I got to play with the camera. All good! Why the Suzuki tee shirt? Brian and I love to go on road trips on the Suzuki. A tee shirt, converse and jeans are the perfect outfit to wear on the ride.

Happy Labor Day Girl

Jeans: Thrifted, T shirt: JC Pennys, Shoes: Target , Scarf: Vintage

I actually took these pictures on Friday but I thought it was pretty fitting for Labor Day. I really didn't chose a red barn on purpose but it all worked out! Well, while I was taking these pictures the heel on my sandal completely broke. I have never had that happen before. I've seen it happen in the movies or on tv and I was always like - how does that happen? Well, now I know. Randomly!

Have a great holiday!

Backup Plan

Sometimes the best outfits are the ones that aren't planned. The backup plan to the outfit that lies in a heap on the closet floor. The reject doesn't get to see the light of day. Time to call in the second string! I know I can turn to this navy and white polka dot skirt anytime, anywhere. And the green silk sleeve caught my eye when I was grabbing the skirt - perfect! Paired it with some pearls and a matching silky navy bow. My hair ended up in a side bun since much drama was had over the reject outfit and some precious morning minutes were lost.

Top: Cato, Skirt: Vintage, Shoes: Vintage, Hairbow: Thrifted, Necklace & Earrings: can't recall!

One Day

Top: Thrifted   Jeans: Thrifted    Shoes: Go Jane    Bangles: NY&CO    Shades: RayBan     Bag: Thrifted

Grooviness. Having fun with bangles and boot cut jeans. It's tempting to wear a ton of these bangles at once and I finally did it. Drove the people at work crazy I'm sure.

Feminine Western

Those are the words a lady I work with used to describe this outfit. Feminine Western. Cute! A little denim - a little animal print. I really wanted to bring this sheer skirt back out of the closet and use it for summer. I chose to wear some leggings underneath to keep it work friendly. But I would love to throw on a black mini underneath and tank on top for a night out.

What's Black and White and Red All Over? Me, silly!

Hi all! Back in the saddle I am! I figured since I kicked off my reappearance in the blogosphere by announcing my engagement, I might as well follow it up with some wacky fashion, eh? Why not. Well....let's see. Things haven't changed much. Parenting a 4 year old is still hard as hell. No change there. We have settled in to our house - finally. I even switched over my winter closet into a summer closet since (pout) I'm not lucky enough to have a closet big enough for both seasons. I call that pretty settled when you've went through 2 closet changes. Ummm...welllll... I did get a hair cut. That was pretty exciting. Other than that - you didn't miss much! It is good to be back and although I know the reasoning behind my shying away from blogging back in February, it feels excellent to have an outfit post. What can I say!

 Pic's by my fiancé Brian!

Have a great week!

A Window to Me

I am looking forward to my 3 and a half day weekend. I have a much needed hair appointment on Friday. I feel like life is getting back to normal. This holiday season has been, to say the least, stressful. I think it was the combination of my boyfriend and I combining families, moving into together into a new house at the end of October to only have to rush into Thanksgiving followed by frantically getting it together for Christmas. I don't think I've had a chance to breathe. And if I did, I sure don't remember it. Unfortunately for me, and for everyone else around me, I am burned out. When you move in with your partner you can't just waltz in and start hanging your favorite kitty cat pictures anywhere you want to. Mind you I don't have a kitty cat picture but you get my drift. If it was just me moving into another place for me, well then that's easy as pie. But when you are melding yourself with your partner it takes a little bit more thought and a lot more effort. Take for instance my little white dove that I love so much. Here she is:
She was not allowed to be on display. Actually, anytime that Brian catches a glimpse of her all I hear is "Baybieeeee...." and a grimace on his face. So she has ended up on my side of the bed on my bedside table lamp. And I am ok with that.
Here is one of his favorites that he wanted in the kitchen and at first I said nah, but they are growing on me and might eventually make their way up from the man cave. Maybe.
Compromises were made and we worked it all out, no worries. Maybe the dove and beer steins will one day meet. Seems like the moment we settled on what went where we had to tear it all down and put up Christmas decorations. Christmas to me just seems so fast anymore. Just seems like a rush to get everything done. Every year I tell myself that next year will be better, that things will go smoother and get accomplished with ease. That I will have tons and tons of time to make millions of crafts, gifts, and goodies. It's just not really not going to happen to a perfectionist procrastinator. It just isn't. I will probably always feel the pressure. I just have to learn how to deal with that holiday pressure better somehow right? Sure. It can be done. I just have to get geared up for it. And not move my whole house 3 weeks before Thanksgiving. Just to kind of pile it on a little, work has been impossible. I went back to doing payroll, which I know sounds so exciting so hold onto your seats here, because I thought that would make me feel more secure and calm knowing that I knew what I was doing from front to back. But it's only made me realize why I quit doing payroll. The deadlines will smother you. I feel I have no room to breathe. I couldn't take any time off at the holidays because of the schedule. Memories just came flooding back of when I used to be a sour, snappy person at work and yes, that was when I was doing payroll for a company about 11 years ago. I got back into payroll to escape a job that was way over my head and was flabbergasting me every day. I thought if I went back to my roots I would be safe. Safe is not necessarily good. Unless I can find something else that I feel confident in and can make some dough at, I will stay where I am until I can figure something out. I just get that dreaded feeling...don't know if you've ever had it or not...but it feels dead. That feeling that you are getting up every day to go be dead. Mentally dead and emotionally strained and fighting a rage that is growing in your belly and creeping up into your throat. On another note,
I miss my son.
When he is not here and is with his dad I miss him so much it. Our bedtime routine goes a little something like this...We head to his room about 7:45 or 8:00 to watch a few episodes of his choosing. Either Backyardigans, Olivia, Franklin or the beginning of Madagascar or Horton Hears a Who. We get snuggled under the covers and I hold him close. I run my fingers through his hair or rub his back. We check the clock and he tells me when the big hand is close to the 6. Then, as he says, Lights Out. As soon as lights are out, he drinks a little sippy of milk and I start singing him a combination of songs I have been singing him his whole life. You Are My Sunshine, If All the Raindrops Were Lemon Drops and Gumdrops, Jesus Loves Me and Farmer in the Dell. I continue to rub his tiny little back and sing the final song, Kumbaya. Sometime during that song and one of the million lyrics I have added to it to lengthen it into oblivion, he slips off into dreamland. Sometimes I do to. I wake up and try to easily roll out of the bed and put up the bed rail guard. I slip out the door quiet as a mouse and head into the kitchen to do my final rounds of clean up. I pass back by his door and have fleeting thoughts of crawling back in the bed with him and snuggling him like the teddy bear he is. Instead, I head to my bed and anxiously await him to gently touch my hand in the middle of the night after he has found his way to me in the dark quiet night. I crawl out of my covers and carry him back to his bed, when I can resist the temptation to pull him in the bed with me and clutch him tightly, and ask him if he needs to use the potty. He holds onto me so tightly in that walk back to his room. His sleepy little body...that little boy that I know so well...that little boy that I have nursed as an infant and known since his first day of life. I place him back under the covers and I crawl in there with him sometimes to sing some more and sometimes just to let him know that I'm there. I end up slipping back out about an hour later.

On the nights he's not here, I go to my bed and sleep.
He's not here tonight, so that's what I will be doing.
All my love sweet little boy

I'll take a double shot please sir

Let's exaggerate the animal print trend and wear two different kinds of them! Yeah woo. The scarf (the lonely little one I was talking about having since high school and he just keeps on sitting in my drawer until I find him again) and the tank were cat-calling out to each other for me to wear them together. I finally said OK OK! Chill. They clawed their way up and cuddled just like this. Ok fine - I will stop the cheesy animal references. This was fun and although I would have liked to wear it with skinny jeans, well...skinny jeans hate me. Because I'm what you call...umm...curvy? And why do I wear blood red with animal print? Habit. Or Animal Planet reruns. One or the other. Happy happy Monday.
Also gave the teased pulled back look a try. No bumpit. There for a hot minute I thought I was Snooki.
