Mini Bathroom Makeover from Target

Before you judge...our main bath needs a complete gut and redesign (hello gold toilet and shower!) but until that day comes I have to make the best with what I've got.

When we bought the house it was covered in hideous wallpaper as old circa 1980s houses usually are. We peeled that ick off and painted it a shade of green that I slowly grew to hate. Last year I painted all of the walls and trim a glossy white, scraped all of the popcorn off the ceiling (back breaking work!) and gave it a fresh coat of white paint.

Last week I saw this quirky cactus shower curtain at Target and figured Why Not?! It was on sale and it makes me giggle every time I walk in the bathroom. Plus the price was great for it being a fabric curtain. I kept the towels and the bath mat simple and let the curtain hold center stage.

I grabbed these little succulents from the Dollar Bin area.

Prices may change because it was on sale the day I went. Also, the price IN store was about $3 more. Sometimes it is cheaper to buy online and then pick it up. I could've done that but I wanted to FEEL the fabric of the curtain first. I also wanted to match up the rug in person.

Put a Bow on it Girl

A little unexpected accessory is a perfect way to take a simple outfit to a new level! I have worn this bowtie without a collar and with a collar, like you see here. I originally got the idea from the adorable Drew Barrymore when I saw her wear one in a movie one time. I love to pull this little guy out whenever I need to make an ordinary outfit a little more special.

Fall Colors in Winter Girl

On one of our warmer days I got to finally wear this olive green silky shirt dress that I got as a Christmas gift. Yes, it was on my amazon wish list and my hubby did exactly what he should've done and got it for me!

I went with a more autumnal color palette because it just felt right! Here it is a few days before Valentine's day and I look like I'm heading to Thanksgiving dinner!

I love a good shirt dress. It is the perfect dress for my body shape. It balances out my smaller top half to my larger bottom half. Pear shape! Plus this fabric is very forgiving and doesn't cling!

Dress: Target (similar)
Cardigan: Eddie Bauer (few years old)
Boots: gift from my mom!

Pattern Pants Girl

My winter clothes storage boxes have been unearthed from the basement and I am currently sorting through my vast collection of sweaters. I would really REALLY love to get rid of most of my ho hum sweaters in exchange for 2 or 3 fine quality ones that I fully adore. Efforts are underway and I have my eye on this off white sweater from Woolrich that would allow me to donate 3 other sweaters in it's place. It's expensive but it would be my only off white sweater. Honestly, since I don't go to an office job each day, my closet is just not getting the workout that it used to.

I noticed these pants hanging in my closet and remembered, even though I have worn them several times, I don't think they have appeared on the blog yet. This will probably be the last time I wear them this year since they are a bit too thin for colder weather. Adios!

A Target Wishlist

Everyone knows that a trip to Target can turn into a very, very dangerous thing. You might go in for toothpaste and come out with a whole new living room. To slow my roll, I created a wishlist. I shared it with you. So you can now come with  me to the dark side. You're welcome.

DIY {Boring Wallet Makeover}

I had a wonderful wallet that I loved loved loved but it finally bit the dust. I was on a mission to find another one I loved just as much but on the cheap. I searched high and low and finally went with one from Target. It was one of those slim, flat wallets that had the clasp closure. And it was on clearance for $6.48. First off I had too much stuff in there and it wouldn't even close. Secondly, after it finally did close the clasp couldn't handle what I was bringing and it broke. I went back to Target without my receipt, of course, and got a store credit. I couldn't find anything that was cute and still big enough for all of my stuff. I still carry a checkbook - am I the only one? There were maybe 4 wallets out of 100 that would fit a checkbook. Of course this was Target and they seem like they cater to the college student when it comes to the women's section. Amiright?

This is the wallet I settled on. A plain, pinkish, zip up. I grabbed some goodies from my trusty craft box and my craft glue. Time to Bling It Out!

You can get little crochet embellishments at the craft store. I can't remember what section I got these out of. I think I might have even found them in the bargain bin. But anything flat that would work with glue would be fine to use. You could cut out a design out of fabric or felt, add decorative stitching and then glue it on. You could crochet your own design and add it as well! Unfortunately I am not that talented and I am always looking for crafts that are quick and easy.  So I went with the pre-made easy to glue method.

I also dug up an old string of pearls and removed one bead.

Arrange how you would like it, then remove it then glue it. I'm way to decisive to go with my first choice of placement. I kept the design simple and used a good amount of glue but not so much that it bubbled out the sides. I only used one pearl because over time I knew the chances would be high for the pearl popping off.

Let it dry overnight. I did come back with a toothpick and glue down some of the pesky ends that were flipping up. Your wallet will smell a little like glue for the first day. Then it will go back to smelling like the wallet it was born to be.

I'm ready to ride Clyde!

Leather & Lace Girl

Top: Ebay (similar), Dress (worn as a top): Modcloth (similar), Faux leather pants: Target (only plus size left on website but search local store) Boots: Seychelles

This really is my most favorite, most "me" outfit. I feel great. I feel comfy. It's not fussy or messy. Just casual chic with a bit of a rocker vibe.

Here is the dress worn it's proper way back in 2010. I cut the lining out of the bottom so it would look a bit more tunic-like. It is too short on me anymore to wear as a dress all by itself. I washed it to get a stain out (but didn't dry it) and unfortunately it just didn't wash well.

Old Friends Girl

Sweater: Target, Skirt: NY&Co, Tights (2 pair): Ebay, Socks& Necklace: Modcloth, Boots: Seychelles

I was so excited to be able to meet up with my dear friend since high school last Tuesday for lunch. I was literally jumping up and down when I saw her! It is so nice to catch up. Thanks Tracey!

I have been ready to wear this skirt with a long sweater and these wine colored tights for basically forever. Ok, maybe like 2 months. I was waiting on some ankle boots to complete the look and I got those checked off my list at Christmas. It finally all came together and lunch with a friend was the best time for it's debut!

The obligatory jump pose!

Shadow Girl

Top & Flats: Target, Cords: NY&Co

The sun was really pouring in when we were taking these photos before church last Wednesday night and it felt so wonderful. I'm enjoying these last few days of warm weather and dry weather before they disappear. I think we are in for a lot of rain next week because the remnants of tropical storm Karen will roll in.

I have no excuse as to why it took me so long to get these photos up. I have had a bit of a busy week but not unusually so. I got to spend some time with a good friend of mine who is on the same recovery journey as I am. She is a wonderful woman with a strong desire to live for Christ and to be the best she can be but struggles with the pressures of life just like the rest of us do, me included! It is good to get together with an encouraging friend.

Today I have a big pot of chili simmering on the stove and anxiously awaiting the Carolina Panthers game coming on soon....

Jumpsuit Girl

Jumpsuit: Forever 21, Heels: Target, Sunnies: RayBan, Hairflower: DIY

Jumpsuits!! Pros: lightweight, full coverage, fun prints. Cons: going to the bathroom takes forever.
I had lots of fun wearing this! It was a blast. You either love these things or you hate them. But the response I got was really positive. I think most people are intrigued. And for as cheap as this was it doesn't really matter if you never wear it again. Actually, it will probably fall apart before I wear it as much as I would like. I also love how the legs have elastic bands so you can pull the legs as high or as low as you want to go! Limbo!

Photos by Brian - thanks sweets!

Marrakech Girl

Dress: Thrifted, Wedges: Target ($12 on sale! Yippie)

Feeling a bit Moroccan in these colors! I can dream about visiting Marrakech, Morocco but I doubt it will happen anytime soon. I don't even know where it's safe to travel anymore in this day and age. Maybe I'm just being overly cautious. I would love to visit the pyramids in Egypt but after all of the horrific stories of terrorism, it makes you stop. Maybe one day. Sometimes you do have to take risks. But as for right now, I have to be responsible and not put myself in too many risky situations because I am a mom of a small child and I want to be there for him throughout his life. I can't go running around to high alert zones! Sheesh! Anyway, some pictures will just have to do for now.
