Casual Pastels

Sweater and Trousers: Thrifted, Gladiator Sandals: Target, Hair flower: DIY

Just keeping it relaxed today with casual trousers and a breezy summer sweater. Ah! I LUV summer sweaters! My quick fix hair style is definitely the side bun with a feminine accessory.

Poached Eggs Anyone?

One of my most favorite things to do on the weekend is to try new recipes for breakfast. Breakfast is usually so uneventful through the week so when the weekend comes I'm ready to make it special. I have fallen in love with poached eggs lately. Especially over English muffins. It makes me feel like I am giving in to Eggs Benedict, which is my most favorite breakfast meal!

If you've never tried poaching an egg - it's super easy! I'll show you how! If eggs make you squeamish (like you mom!) better skip this one!

First, you will want to bring your water to a boil. Make sure there is enough water in the saucepan that it is deep enough for the egg to drop into and have lots of freedom to float around! After a rolling boil, turn the burner back down to medium. You want the water moving just a little bit when you drop the egg in.

Drop the egg in as close to the water without dipping the bowl in.

At first it will look like this.

Then the egg will start to come together

Scoop out the egg very gently with a slotted spoon (I use a wooden spoon) and let it dry on a paper towel. I started getting everything else ready that I wanted to use in my extra special yummy (and healthy!) breakfast.

I decided to wilt some spinach to put on top of my English muffins to add a bit of veggies to the meal. I chopped up garlic and coated the pan with some Omega 3 Canola oil.

Let the spinach wilt - it only takes a minute

Place the spinach on a paper towel to let some of the oil soak.

I topped my English muffin with pre-cooked bacon and piled the spinach on! Then I sprinkled the egg with some oregano, salt and pepper. Garnish with some red seedless grapes. YUM!

Pink Flowers and Polka Dots

Top: Kmart, Jeans: Family Dollar, Espadrilles: Target, Flower: Thrifted

Brian and I took some time today to run some errands and be super productive! It was a great, great day. Lots of house cleaning got done before 10am this morning. I know - that sounds like a lot of fun right? We even squeezed in motorcycle ride to a birthday party...and at yummy cupcakes and laughed at all the icing I was wearing on my nose. Cupcakes and pink flowers and polka dots. Man, doesn't get any better than this!

Comfort Zone

Dress: some now-defunct store in the mall, Tank: NY&Co, Sweater: UO, Socks: Target, Boots: Dan Post (most awesome gift from my sweetie!), Necklace: Local/handmade, Earrings: ??

Ahh...my cowboy boots. I keep these guys in my closet year round. They seem to work their way into my wardrobe nearly every season. I tried to keep my style relaxed and comfy today - it's Friday! I'm ready to start the weekend and my list of chores/things to do/stuff I MUST get accomplished or I will pull my hair out kind of thing. The work week just seems to fly by and things pile up. Last weekend was a total wash because we lost power most of the weekend because of a bunch of bad summer thunderstorms. This weekend has to be productive. Has to! Wish me luck!

Yes Sir

Vest, Trousers and Oxfords: Thrifted, Shirt: Kmart, Watch Locket: Icing, Brooch: Vintage

After dressing pretty frilly for the last week or so I thought I would change it up a bit. I took a turn towards menswear today. I added the vest at the last minute and knew it was exactly what I was missing. My watch locket added a bit of old world charm, I think. Of course I added some glasses for that added prep appeal. So glad tomorrow is Friday!

Brights!

Thrifted from head to toe! Yay!

A little more playful color blocking today! I absolutely loved wearing this outfit. I probably blew a couple of people's vision for the day with the bright colors but it was fun. I was definitely in a very great mood all day long. I think it was directly related to my outfit!

Dress: Walmart, Blouse: Thrifted, Heels: Target, Hat: CVS @ the beach, Necktie: Thrifted scarf

Inspired

Jacket: JC Penny, Top: Urban Outfitters, Pants: Thrifted, Heels: Belk, Necklace & Earrings: NY&Co

Feeling very inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Beth, from B.Jones Style. Her cropped trousers, heels and chunky necklace really worked here. I love her style and how easy and effortless she makes it look! I'm really enjoying her color blocking she is doing lately and it's making me want to plan a few rainbow inspired outfits myself. She also has great hair tutorials - especially the fun "Carrie Bradshaw" bun. You'll have to check it out. Something easy to do when your hair is dirty and you still want to look super chic!

Backup Plan

Sometimes the best outfits are the ones that aren't planned. The backup plan to the outfit that lies in a heap on the closet floor. The reject doesn't get to see the light of day. Time to call in the second string! I know I can turn to this navy and white polka dot skirt anytime, anywhere. And the green silk sleeve caught my eye when I was grabbing the skirt - perfect! Paired it with some pearls and a matching silky navy bow. My hair ended up in a side bun since much drama was had over the reject outfit and some precious morning minutes were lost.

Saturday Happenings

Top: Cato, Skirt: Vintage, Wedges: Steve Madden, Brooches: Vintage

Saturdays give me the chance to twist Brian's arm into taking some pictures for me! Which he is always more than happy to do :) The pictures are always better when you don't have to run back and forth between the camera and posing for the shot. Plus he always does such a good job!
We stopped by Lake Eden to grab some nice photos by the lake and stumbled upon this cute little overflow waterfall. After this we were off to the grocery store and hardware store. We came home with loads and loads of groceries only to find that our refrigerator was broken! We frantically got things into coolers and Brian worked on getting us a fridge he had in the basement of his condo that he is renting. Thank the Lord!
