The Big Chill

This was my first try at taking photos in the winter - outside. I tried my hardest not to actually look as frozen as I felt. It was about 28 degrees and then the wind chill made it feel like it was in the teens. NO! I don't live in a northern climate. I'm just hanging out in western NC. I'm not suppose to have to deal with weather in the teens! Whine. I sucked it up and went out at lunch and grabbed a few pics before the sun went away. All in all it turned out fine. Until I couldn't feel my cheeks.

This menswear inspired outfit was fun to wear. I always get lots of comments when I wear a tie. Usually men - I think they are just surprised. I think its great! A woman has so many options when it comes to wardrobe options because we can wear skirts, dresses, trousers, ties - whatever we want. Men get a few options. Some men may experiment and experience more options than others but hey! Right on! Basically I think its wonderful that women don't have the fashion restrictions that existed in earlier years. The freedom to wear trousers and a tie. Perfection!

Snowed In and Snowflakes (What else is there to do?)

Last weekend's snow storm drove me to crafting, which is a good thing. Time to get myself in gear and get started on the project ideas that I have been stockpiling in my mind. I stayed at home all weekend...nowhere to be...nothing to do. Except getting the house ready for Christmas. The best way to spend a snowy weekend.

I checked out Mandi's paper snowflake tutorial on Here's Looking at Me Kid. I had tried to wing it a few days earlier, hoping that my 5th grade snowflake making memories would magically reappear. That wasn't the case and I ended up with ugly little piles of paper. Thank god for Mandi!

I made a few...then a few more...then it got crazy addictive and I made even more. Papa ones, Mama ones and even little baby ones. I put them up on Sunday and it was perfect - snow was still on the ground outside and flurries were flying in the air and my little snowflakes were safe and warm inside the kitchen window.

I put some in my son's room too and he was quite excited to see it when he came back from his dad's. He said (imagine a really shocked tiny little voice) "Mommy! There's snowflakes in my room!"

 

Some snow scenes on the back porch - this is as far as I would go. Hey! I was wearing my woolie socks! No need to go all crazy and risk them getting wet.

Potatoes and Onions

Trying to find a place to take photos inside is quite tough. When you get home at dark thirty there really aren't a whole lot of options. Kitchen? Fireplace area? Bathroom? What? Therefore, tryout number 1: beside the potato & onion bin. My dad picked this up at a house he was working on. I saw it on his porch and was like "What are you going to do with this ol' thing?" I would love to take it home and call it my very own.

I actually have 4 potatoes in there. It comes in very handy.

I adore the side buttons on this sweater. Look! Yippie. I had bought the skirt at one Goodwill store and then started searching for the perfect sweater. I kept on looking for a camel colored sweater but when I saw this whisky colored one I decided that would be a little warmer against the navy wool. Pleated wool....who doesn't love it? As long as it doesn't touch my skin. ITCH fest!

Red Lipstick Boots

There might be a bit of a boot theme going on here! Except these boots were only $3.50 at the Goodwill. Just as exciting as waiting for a brand new pair in the mail. I couldn't believe my luck picking up these beauties. I love the color red! I have paired these up with several other outfits just somehow haven't seem to make a post about them yet. I did wear them here with an autumn twist. I took a classic approach for this outfit. Maybe a little Parisian with the black and white? I chose a black blazer and a black and white striped shirt to pair up with the red boots. I wanted a little bit of flair in my hair so I opted for a side chignon with some flower bobby pins. It felt Spanish inspired...like a flamenco dancer. Except without the dress...or the castanets...or the dance moves. This little spot for the photos is one of my favorite spots in my new yard. I love the bird house and the plants as they get ready for winter. There are bird houses everywhere here. I will be sitting on the porch and spot a new one in a tree, one that I haven't seen before. I can't wait until the spring! But that's a little too far away to think about that now. Got a long way to go...

Merry Early Christmas To ME

This is going to be one of those shameless, shallow posts that focuses on the fact that my new Steve Madden boots finally arrived. Five days later than I expected. It was torture. Pure torture waiting on them to get here. Now they're here! Can you see the extreme happiness going on here?!

I wore this little super comfy comfy outfit to work on Friday. I could probably wear leggings and a tunic almost every day. Way more delightful than plain ol' jeans. These leggings and I have been through a lot. They have seen their fare share of sweater tunics, flowy tunics, high heel sandals and booties. Boy - they sure have grown on me. Not literally grown on me - I can still take them off.

So while I am posting this most amazing post (right?) the sky just got finished dumping some freezing rain on us. Not too much, just enough to make it a little worrisome to travel, maybe. But I don't have to go anywhere or do anything! Yay! Saturdays are definitely better than Mondays. And black olives. Blech!

The Course of This Blog

I would really love to take Elsie's Blog Love E-course. I think I just might. She has a beautifully organized blog that is full of inspirations, dreams come true, lovely eye candy and her sweet self as well. Hello envy! I need to get some direction - some general idea of what is going on with my blog. Long ago it was a simple personal blog, it has been a mommy blog, it has kind of morphed into a daily outfit blog and now I don't know what to do with it. I believe I have finally found my niche with the fashion/daily outfit/thrifting adventure aspect. I know that is what I enjoy the most. But I do want to keep it interesting...keep it fun. I would gladly accept any of your suggestions too. I want to grow as a blogger but also keep it pretty real at the same time. I get super excited at all of your guys comments - you are just tooo tooo tooo sweet. The best!!! This e-course seems to hold the answers to a lot of my questions and will definitely give me some direction I believe. There is no due date on it so as soon as I get the dough I am going to pounce. I'll would like to give some updates as I go along in the course. Since it's at your own pace I don't have to fret and get frazzled about how I'm going to fit it in between unpacking boxes that are STILL in my bedroom, fixing dinner, Riley bug's bath time, and all those other lovely household chores while trying to get some decent outfit photos that don't resemble a worn out mother with no inspiration for fashion. YES! Let's try to accomplish that shall we?

Tonight is potato soup and grilled Colby Jack cheese sammies. Yummmmm.
