Award Girl

Well check me out gettin' all fancy! A very sweet fellow blogger Natalie nominated me for a Liebster Award. My first award! I've seen people with different award buttons on their blogs, but I didn't really know much about it. What happens is; you receive it and then pass on to other bloggers that you love and want to show some love to. The only requirement is that the recipient must have less than 300 followers, so the little guys get to shine!

Natalie blogs over at Natalie Patalie and I love her easy DIY's and the fact that she likes musicals. Yes! Head on over there and check her out!

Ok...here are the rules, so you'll know which end is up.

Nominee posts award on their blog.
- Nominee links back to the nominator’s blog and of course thanks them.
- Nominee answers 11 questions nominator ask of them.

- Nominee then nominates 11 new bloggers they deem worthy with about 300 followers   or less. Make sure to let them know.

Nominee poses 11 questions for their nominees to answer.

Alright! Let's get started. Here are the questions Natalie asked me!
1. How would you describe your blog in 3 words?
fun, no-fuss, nerdy
2. What's the first thing you'd do if you won 1 million dollars?
Buy my dream home which would be an old, white, farmhouse including all farm animals and gardens!
3. What's the best advice someone gave you?
Oh goodness! This is a tough one. Probably Jerimiah 29:11 that God has plans to prosper you...to give you hope and a future. When I started recovery for my alcoholism my group leader shared that with me. Great advice for me at the time because I had no idea how to live sober. It gave me hope to know the Big Guy Upstairs had my back.
4. Describe what would happen on a perfect day for you (being realistic here!)
Thrift shopping! Start the day off in a coffee shop with a pastry for breakfast then onto shopping for bargains. Stop for a delicious lunch al fresco style and then onto round two! I would probably do this with my mom because she is such a good thrift shopping partner and we always have such a good time together.

5. What's something you're really passionate about, other than blogging?

Being a great mom and wife. I quit my job so that my job could be wife and mom full time. I want to soak up all the memories of my son being this age, taking each moment to appreciate and count my blessings.

6. If you had a theme song for your life, what would it be?

Toughie! Only one? I was thinking about this one and was trying to think about my life as a whole. I guess it would be Walking On Broken Glass by Annie Lennox. I feel like I have broken my fair share of "glass" in my life and I have had some broken at no fault of my own. But that doesn't mean I can give up. I feel like each day I am discovering a new obstacle, overcoming another obstacle or just recognizing something that has always been obstacle. Taking it one moment at a time!

7. Who in your life has personally influenced you the most?

My mom. She has always given me good advice, she doesn't judge me, she's always choosing the high road and she relies on God, His Word and how to live life as a good solid person.

8. Where would your super secret home base be located? (Top of a mountain? Bottom of the ocean? Go Crazy!)

How about... in a nook or a cranny in the Grand Canyon.

10. What stereotypically nasty food do you secretly (or not so secretly) love?

Deep fried fish like from Long John Silvers smothered in malt vinegar!!! Also those danishes from vending machines! I haven't had one in years but if someone told me the world was on fire I might go get one before I died.

11. What's your biggest talent?
Coordination. It shows in how I run my household, how I keep up our calendar of events, appointments, etc. When I worked I had a job where every other day I had a major deadline. I had to keep a detailed to do list. I think it also shows in my love for fashion too. Putting an outfit together gives me great satisfaction. Before I had this blog or even knew about blogs I would lay out an outfit on the floor and take a photo. Then I would keep it in a little photo album. It would help me know what could go with what in my closet.

Well! There you have it! Those are my answers to Natalie's questions. Fun fun fun. Now, here are my 11 questions:

1. If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you like to go? (money is no object)
2. Who would you take with you with you on that trip from question number 1?
3. What is your favorite meal to prepare?
4. Who is your favorite historical figure?
5. What would you like to dress up as for Halloween?
6. Would you go on the game Survivor and why?
7. Do you like ice cream or frozen yogurt?
8. What is your favorite holiday?
9. Did you wish you could have or did you ever have an unusual pet?
10. What is your favorite kind of dessert?
11. Who has influenced you the most in your life?

And last but not least, here's who I'm passing this on to. Have fun! You don't have to do it if you don't want to but I think you'll like it :)

Girl With Curves

I ran across this lovely blogger today and her wonderful tumblr fashion blog called Girl With Curves. I wanted to showcase her here too because I think she is so very beautiful (and super sweet when I asked her if I could link a few of her photos). Isn't she gorgeous? She has a great sense of style! Click on the photo to see her full post with lots more photos of Tanesha.

The Course of This Blog

I would really love to take Elsie's Blog Love E-course. I think I just might. She has a beautifully organized blog that is full of inspirations, dreams come true, lovely eye candy and her sweet self as well. Hello envy! I need to get some direction - some general idea of what is going on with my blog. Long ago it was a simple personal blog, it has been a mommy blog, it has kind of morphed into a daily outfit blog and now I don't know what to do with it. I believe I have finally found my niche with the fashion/daily outfit/thrifting adventure aspect. I know that is what I enjoy the most. But I do want to keep it interesting...keep it fun. I would gladly accept any of your suggestions too. I want to grow as a blogger but also keep it pretty real at the same time. I get super excited at all of your guys comments - you are just tooo tooo tooo sweet. The best!!! This e-course seems to hold the answers to a lot of my questions and will definitely give me some direction I believe. There is no due date on it so as soon as I get the dough I am going to pounce. I'll would like to give some updates as I go along in the course. Since it's at your own pace I don't have to fret and get frazzled about how I'm going to fit it in between unpacking boxes that are STILL in my bedroom, fixing dinner, Riley bug's bath time, and all those other lovely household chores while trying to get some decent outfit photos that don't resemble a worn out mother with no inspiration for fashion. YES! Let's try to accomplish that shall we?
I hope all of you guys have a wonderful Thursday night!
Tonight is potato soup and grilled Colby Jack cheese sammies. Yummmmm.

Part of the Art

A couple of weeks ago I asked a good friend of mine if he would do a photo shoot with me that incorporated some local art - especially the graffiti that is an expert at shooting. zen has a great eye for photos and always finds the most interesting way to look at everyday things. He was the one that initially got me interested in photography and has offered me lots of advice over the years. He usually wins the Best Photography Blog that is announced every year at the BlogAsheville parties. And should! His art has been featured at one of the premier hotels here in Asheville as well. He is involved in so many things and his art is featured on Asheville websites, other peoples blogs, newspapers, events...it could quite possibly be a full time job for him. On this particular day I asked him if he could make me part of the art. I think his photos came out excellent and I was very excited to be able to break out of my hum drum work clothes and don a menagerie of colors and textures all in one outfit. zen has a HUGE amount of beautiful and thought provoking photos on flickr. He has a photography blog at zenography and a written blog at zenscription. I encourage you to get lost in his photostream!

and a few when we had to take cover from the rain...
