DIY Painted Rock Cactus

I saw this pin on Pinterest and thought I could muddle through this one pretty well. I didn't really have step by step directions and it was fairly easy just to wing it. My "cactus" doesn't have any cool 3D shadowing effects or anything but I think it works! Maybe?

Here is the original pin:

And here is my finished product!

If you're looking for an easy DIY pin then this one is a good one to do. You really can't mess up. And if you do, just paint over it and start again. It's what I did!

DIY {Decorated Light Bulb}

First of all, let me go ahead and burst your bubble. This was a Pinterest Fail.

I saw this pin and thought, hey, that looks easy.  It was. It just didn't cast shadows on the ceiling like the pin said it would. It was fun to draw it at least.

DIY T-shirt Scarf

I found this pin on Pinterest and decided to give it a try. It was really super easy.

All you need is:
*a t-shirt
*scissors

Cut the top part off. Wherever you want to start is fine. I didn't want that little pocket in the scarf so I cut right under the pocket.

Here's one thing I did NOT do that I wish I would have. I should have cut the hem off the bottom. You'll see what I mean in a minute.
Cut slits up the bottom of the t-shirt like this:

All the way across

Start pulling each piece. This is where I didn't like the little "tabs" on the end from where the hem was.

I cut them off one by one

That's it!

You could add beads at this point or whatever you wanted to do to spice it up. I just kept it plain.

This is a pin-win in my book. Easy to do. Took about 5 minutes. No fail recipe.

Applique

Unexpected break from blogging, huh? December is not my favorite month and I feel like I am just now coming out from the fog of the holidays. Anyway...sometime before the holidays I noticed how I was on repeat at choosing very comfortable outfits to wear each day. That attitude coupled with the stress of the holidays led me to start looking at my wardrobe and really considering what I wanted to keep and what needed to go. Slowly, I started to gather up a dress here, a tee shirt there and before I knew it I had four or five garbage bags full that were on their way to be donated. Then came the shoes. I have probably cut my shoe collection in half. Let's just say, someone has been hitting pay dirt at the Goodwill finding all of the shoes I have donated. Some I had barely even worn, some were worn but maybe once or twice. Most were shoes that I were tired of suffering in. I'm done with feeling uncomfortably dressed, walking in uncomfortable shoes or being too cold because of poor fabric choices. SO, I say all of that why? Well, I don't know really. Basically I have simplified. I am getting back to the basics.

I found some basic skirts and what not at the thrift and consignment shops and I have been looking at how to spice them up with some DIY. I have been searching and looking for appliques. I found some very cute ideas on Pinterest of course and some nice ones on Etsy too.

A Crafty Line Up

My Pinterest cup runneth over with craft projects that I want to try! Except, I would need to take a week off of work just to start...but it's fun to dream. Some of these sound sooo easy. False expectations? I don't know. I'm falling hard for them. If you want to be Pinning Friends, I'm here!

Update a boring sweater w/ adding little pompoms to it (I'm thinking hot glue gun. forget sewing)

make a button bowl (this is done w/ blowing up a balloon and elmers glue)

make an apple bag (kiddo would love to help w/ this one)

make an awesome bird feeder from an old dish and a candle holder

I have tons of buttons. And bobby pins. This would be a great girlfriend party

Playdough lids transformed into a bird feeder (kiddos would love)

If I could have back some of those baby food jars for this...

or this...

Thanks Pinterest for all the endless hours....

Fairy Gardens

I've seen mini gardens here and there for a few years but I keep on forgetting that they are on my list of to-do's. I want to do A LOT of gardening this spring and sprucing up the yard. So, amazingly, this idea came back to me a couple days ago. I checked trusty Pinterest of course to see what was out there to get my creative juices flowing. Swoon! I think my son would like to do this with me too. Man - this really quenches that little kid spirit in me too that sometimes I let get too stifled in my adult world! I think I will literally jump up and down if I made one of these.
