Happy 37th Birthday to Me Girl

These photos are from the last week of August when we went out for my birthday dinner. Finally got to go to the Nightbell restaurant here in town. It came highly recommended from a trusted source.  And you know what? It was GREAT! It was unique, intimate, and just what I needed. I posted on instagram what they brought out to me for my birthday :) Whaaat?! Totes adorbs.

SO my outfit...I LOVE IT! My hubby got this open front maxi dress for me as one of my gifts. We share with each other our amazon wish lists so there is never a need to ask each other what we want.

"What do you want for your birthday?"
"Check my list yo!"

When we do make a purchase, it may not be a complete surprise, but the gift is always a darn good one! Of course we still go rogue and get something OFF the list from time to time. WHOA.

I had put this dress? cape? on my list after I saw another blogger post about it. I thought it was genius! It's a dress, it's a shirt...it's a CAPE! A superwoman cape!

Happy 37th birthday to me!

Tie Dyed Girl

Dress: NY&Co (was all white), Sandals: Target

This is my first attempt at tie dye! It wasn't really the success I was hoping it would be, but I did pick a dress that had a TON of material to it which was really my downfall. There is a built in liner underneath so there are two skirts and then the fact that it is floor length just added to the struggle. I did the roll/stripe method. If you can even tell. I rolled the garment horizontally and then added string (rubber bands couldn't hold the heavy amount of fabric) every few inches or so. I squirted the dye on and around the parts that I tied with string.

The first attempt didn't really get the bottom of the dress as much as I wanted. I had rolled it up from the bottom to the top. The second time I dyed it I rolled it from the top towards the bottom. Much better! It still isn't exactly what I had in mind, but it will do!

I did end up with some really cool patterns. A bit of a Rorschach test maybe? A butterfly...a
crime scene...a far away solar system...

This was the dress I wore when we I took our engagement photos on the beach. So it was nice to be able to repurpose it into something "new" to me. It did feel a bit wedding when it was all white but now I can explore a bit more of a hippie vibe when I feel like it.

Remembering Girl

Bolero: NY&Co, Dress: Roses, Shoes: Aldo, Necklace:? Earrings: Premier Jewelry

I remember exactly the last time I wore this dress. It was almost one year to the date. I can tell you the whole story.....soon! I have a special post coming up later this week and it will alllll tie together and you will just be so satisfied that you finally know what I'm talking about. Or you will forget all together. Whichever one happens, I'm ok with.

Wine-y Girl

Velvet Jacket and Dress: Thrifted, Boots: Chelsea Crew

I know I said I would have Thanksgiving outfit photos but I stuffed myself so much that I didn't do anything. Anything. at. all. But I did love the outfit I wore so I will definitely be wearing it again.
These photos are from last week but I really loved the way this outfit came together. The deep wine color in the jacket really brought out the colors in the dress. A wine colored lip finished out the look I was going for.

Most Interesting Girl

Top: Bitten, Dress (worn as a skirt): some forgotten head shop, Sandals: Aldo, Belt: forgotten as well

This is the most interesting outfit I have worn in the past two weeks. It felt pretty monumental. I had pink eye for about a week and a half and felt relief finally this past weekend. So I have not been much on the picture taking aspect of life. I'm still not wearing any eye makeup because I refuse to buy any new stuff until I finish my prescription eye drops. If there is one thing I know, it's that pink eye sucks. This is the first round of many more icky things to come from a kindergartners first year in the big house.

On a second note - this top is one of the ones from Sarah Jessica Parker's Bitten line that I wish still existed. At least in my town. I'm not sure if Bitten as whole tanked or just Steve & Barry's that carried the line. I'm to lazy to research it right now. But I sure do love this top. It was inexpensive but has really kept it's shape and color for years.

Pink

Dress: a little hippie shop in the mall, Sandals: Target, Earrings: local & handmade, Tank: old!

I enjoyed spending time with my family after a fun birthday party for my cousins little boy with lots of pizza and cake! The weather was perfect and it was very relaxing in the shade. We stopped at this little spot on the way back home. It used to be up and going, then it was shut down and now it seems to be back up and going again as a little venue for community events. etc. I'm glad because it's like a tiny little western town if you squint really hard. :)

Festivities

I'm a big fan of street festivals and we headed down to one last weekend. I wore this deep blue green maxi dress because of the comfy factor. Makes it easy to walk in the crowds, snack on Mediterranean food and listen to a variety of bands. Afterwords we sat in the shade with some friends and had a cookout and some cold drinks. Good days!

I kind of sleep like a stick

When I first tried on this maxi dress I thought it might look a little to nightgown-ie so I accessorized it up a little. Probably over-accessorized but I think its something about that boho look that makes you (or maybe just me!) want to throw every piece of jewelry I have on. I do think this dress would look great casual as well with some gladiator sandals and a head scarf. But it does have a nightgown feel. Speaking of sleeping, I do sleep kind of like a stick. Meaning, I sleep on my side or more recently on my back pretty much in a straight line. And I get pretty close to the edge of the bed. I used to never sleep on my back until after I had my son and my ginormous belly had gone away, therefore relieving my lungs from 10 pounds of pressure (or so it seemed) and allowed me to explore other ways to sleep rather than something resembling a beached whale in a sea of pillows. My son crawls in the bed with me sometimes and I believe I have trained myself to sleep in one spot taking up the least amount of space. Which leaves me waking up with stiff necks, limbs that are asleep, and all sorts of cramps and aches. Oh well. Anyway...here's the maxi dress with my new clogs that I plan to carry on through the fall with tights, tall socks or crop pants. Brian snapped a couple of pictures outside one of our favorite local pubs. Have a great Sunday!
