Slushy Slush Girl

And enter in the slushy junk that is left behind by the big snow storm! YAY! It's always 3 or 4 days of making sure I wear shoes that can put up with nasty, white, salty, slush on them. I love this outfit except for the shoes! Since I don't need to hike though 10 inches of snow (like last Sunday), I chose not to wear my Sorels but still needed something waterproof and safe. I also wanted to show off these cute little black and white camp socks that I steal from my hubby pretty much every other day! That left this pair of brown hiking boots and my LL Bean Hunting boots, which are navy. I went with the hiking boots because I really wasn't feeling adding navy to this outfit. They serve their purpose well as hiking boots but I kinda wish they were black for this outfit. I know, I know, I should really only be caring whether or not they grip the ground well enough to keep me from slipping. That's why I'm not wearing any of my slick soled black boots. Buuuuttttt....it would look better with something like this:

I have gotten some excellent mileage out of my trusty Woolrich black and red checked flannel. I don't see this guy going anywhere soon!

Weekend Getaway Girl

The hubby and I went on a weekend getaway a few weeks ago to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. We had a great time just taking in the sights, eating junk food and big breakfasts and taking tiny adventures. Just by stroke of sheer luck we visited Cades Cove on one of the sunniest and warmest days. We did the auto tour which is something I have never done - until now! I want to go back and do the biking tour sometime.

 The snowiest day was spent up at Ober Gatlinburg watching the skiers from the warm ski lodge. We're heading back to Ober to take our son to snow tube in a few weeks. I'm looking forward to that. He will really love riding this tram up the mountain.

I loved watching the skiers and snowboarders. We'll be back here next weekend with my son and I'll join him snow tubing. I can do that at least!

I'm probably the worst ice skater in the world so we sat on the side lines and watched everyone else instead.

It was all about comfort and lots of layers on this adventure. I wore two pairs of leggings, a skirt, thick socks and tall boots. I had two layers on top and a warm scarf. It worked! I stayed toasty.

On the last day we ate whatever we wanted (donuts and cupcakes), did a little shopping and finished it off in the heated pool a the hotel. Our hotel wasn't fancy but it did the job. We could walk to wherever we wanted to go and we needed that after stuffing our faces with all.the.foods. 

Breakfast!!! WHAAAAT?

I was setting up to take these photos a little further down the road when a car pulled up behind me. I immediately thought "oh crap, what have I done now?".  Is the owner of this abandoned factory going to tell me to get the heck off of his property? Am I getting ready to be abducted? They don't realize I have the personality of Spongebob and would quickly change their mind after 10 minutes with me. Well it was none of that. It was actually a very kind gentleman that told me there were about 100 Canadian geese at the lake just a few minutes down the road and it might make for some good photos. I thought that sounded like a good idea and I packed up and headed to the lake. Best decision I made all day (I don't make very many decisions). The lake was perfect for photos.

I wanted to share a few more photos from the time I spent at my friend's lake house a few weeks back. Wow. Looking at these photos makes me want to go back so badly! I think these are some of my most favorite photos in a long while. I take my photos all by my lonesome with the help of a tripod and a remote. So for the photos to turn out as good as they did here - lighting, angles, time of day, etc - makes me happy. It is a hard thing to get right. It is a rare occurrence around here! Basically...just dumb luck. Really and truly the main reason they are so good is the gosh darn awesome setting. I would've liked to have the lake in the background but the lighting wasn't working when I tried to shoot that way. Only a professional photographer could've made that magic work! Maybe one day...

Lost Girl

Immediately after taking these photos I lost my phone. I had laid it on my car while I was setting up the camera. I was going to get a photo on my phone so I could quicky upload to Instagram and whatnot. I don't normally take my photo with me to outfit shoots but I did this time. Bad idea. My only guess is that after I folded up the tripod and put the camera back in the car, I drove away with the phone on the trunk of my car. When I got back home, which is about 5 minutes away, I realized I didn't have it. I drove back down where I was and it was no where to be seen. It wasn't even crushed in a million pieces on the road. Someone must have seen it and picked it up. That's all I can think of. We took all the steps with Verizon for lost phone drama. And I am up for a new one in a week or so. I am back to a dumb phone until then. It's been a blessing and a curse. The one thing I miss the most is my google calendar. I had that puppy set up with reminders throughout the day. Can't wait to get that back! 

On another note, these little boot socks came from an old pair of camp socks of my husbands. I know, ewwwww right? No. I cut the foot of them off so it was just the top band. I'll show you the before and after in my next post. So easy. I guess this could be a "glamping" kind of outfit!

Faith Girl

I am wearing my other pair of new boots I bought with my Christmas money but I didn't get a good photo of them here. I will definitely be wearing them again so you'll get another look! As a matter of fact you will probably grow so sick of seeing them. They are crazy comfy. 

I wanted to show you this sweet little bracelet I got from a good friend. She is my leader of the twelve step group that I am working through right now. The bracelet has an anchor on it and she encouraged us to be anchored in our faith. YES! I love it and it went so very well with this outfit.

I know I have been the queen of casual lately. Yes. I have. I really just enjoy being comfortable. I still have my frilly things - they do call out to me. Probably next week I will force myself to get dolled up for a day or so. I know this is major cheese factor but I want to see the last Twilight. I know! I know! Slap me now. But I'm not a diehard. I will probably wait until it comes out on dvd. Twilight seems pretty tame compared to True Blood. We're on a True Blood hiatus right now since we don't have HBO. True Blood is my favorite vamp series by far. But I will have to wait to catch up on that. Right now I have Sons of Anarchy to catch up on and American Horror Story to keep me busy.
