Style: Cropped Tops

I was reading Mandi's blog this morning and got obsessed with the cute cropped sweater in her style board! I would love to wear more of them but I don't really love my midsection so it leaves me a bit intimidated. I thought I would pull together some style boards of my own to help soothe my obsession. The secret for me to stay comfortable is for the bottom half of my outfit to be high waisted.
I created three different sets. A flirty crop option, a casual crop option and a more dressier version. I want all three!!

I love these high waisted floral trousers! Plus the cropped sweater has a ruffle edge to ease the transition and not cling to my midsection.

Flirty Crop

And how cute is this striped black and white cropped top?! I thought pairing it with a cardigan would help me feel more comfortable with the close fitting top. This is my favorite outfit out of the three.

Casual Crop

The dressier version includes pieces that I think I could find versions of in my own closet!

How about you? Do you like cropped tops and sweaters? Feel intimidated like me?

Black, White & Silver Girl

Tunic: NY&CO, Sweater: Thrifted, Leggings & Sandals: Target, Bag: Charming Charlie's

I am closing in on my one year and two months sober anniversary. I was on my way to my class/meeting and snapped a few photos beforehand. I always look forward to my weekly meetings and twelve step program progress. I am hesitant because the questions are revealing but really ready to dive deeper into finding out the answer to the question of "who am I"? It gets a little intense during the group time and even when I go in thinking I don't have a whole lot to give that night, I end up coming out being blessed by something that another lady has shared through her recovery. It's always a blessing. It really is.

I'm looking forward to getting started on some volunteer work at my son's school. It's just the second week of school so once things get rolling I have a feeling I might get a little busy. But that's ok. I want to be involved and I want to be in on the inner workings of the school. I feel so disconnected to it right now and I actually have a very hard time getting through to the administration if I have a question or need advice. So I am hoping that being more involved can get me more answers to my questions and in a much faster way. We'll see.

I tried going curly with my hair with this outfit. I started with slightly damp hair and twisted and wrapped about 5 sections of my hair into little buns. It looked almost just like this. I liked the end result - but this is about my 4th rodeo with no heat curls so I've learned a few tricks. If you use small sections of hair and have lots of little buns, you'll get super kinky curls. The bigger the sections with less buns, the bigger the curls. I don't like to wrap them and sleep on them because that's just TOO much curl for me. So I just left them on for a few hours after the shower but before I had to get ready.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Not That Into You Girl

Vest: Thrifted, Tank: NY&CO, Pants: Dillards, Sandals: Target

I think is one of those classic "These pants are just not that into you" things. I just can't seem to make these pants work OR feel confident when I am wearing them. There is just too much fabric. They are petite too so if I wear too much of a heel I get that wonky feeling at the ankle. The waist is a little wacky too. These pants are just not that into me. And that's ok. I'm tired of trying to make them love me.

Angela & Roi Handbags

Guys, I was recently introduced to Angela & Roi and their gorgeous handbags!

The most exciting thing is Angela & Roi combine fashion and philanthropy by color. Meaning, each bag can coordinate with a color that, in turn, coordinates with a cause. The Donate by Color mission means they will donate a portion of each handbag sale to chosen non-profit health organizations. From their website..."For example, Lung Cancer awareness links traditionally with the color white. When customers purchase a white handbag, five dollars will automatically be donated to Lung Cancer Alliance. Our company works together in total with eleven non-profit organizations."

To see the complete list of causes and their colors click here

"We donate to the cause to end the AIDS epidemic in the United States, through national, regional and local policy and giving people living and affected by HIV/AIDS access to necessary resources and care."

"We donate to educate individuals for preventative measures against cancer, provide treatments for those struggling with cancer, and work toward a cure for cancer."

"We donate to promote prevention, treatment, and cure of anxiety, depression, and stress-related disorders through education, practice, and research."

Isn't this a great platform? I really like that there are 11 causes to chose from and the colors are so rich on the final product. It looks expensive, not cheap. They use vegan leather instead of animal leather and they have very reasonable prices. AND there is free shipping!! Woot!

Take a minute to check out Angela & Roi! I don't think you would be disappointed!
 They are on Facebook too!

A Day in the Life of One Girl is on FB!

Hi Everyone!
I now have a Facebook Page for A Day in the Life of One Girl!
I will share when there is a new post, but I will also share lots of other stuff too!
Come on over!

Post Birthday Girl

Top: Walmart, Leather Skirt: Ebay, Heels: Belk

It was just last week but it seems like my birthday was forever ago. We snapped these photos on the way to a tasty Thai dinner in celebration of my 35 year on this earth. Ok. I just want to hit the pause button right now. I really like my 30s and I think 35 is a great place to stop counting.

The Thai dinner ended up being delicious as always but his time I got a Thai Sweet Tea and it was SO good!!! It was the perfect combination for a spicy noodle dish. I don't know where I have been! Why have I not tried a Thai Sweet Tea yet? Have you? They must use coconut milk because it was sweet but the tea flavor still came through. Yums.

I did get a little bit of birthday money from my sweet little dad so I have made a few purchases. I bought a really nice pair of ponte knit leggings at Kohl's that have little inserts of elastic at the waistband so I don't have to fight the waist gap that always happens to me. Yay! I grabbed a nice top to go with the pants at a little consignment shop that is my go-to for cute, unique pieces. The final purchase was a faux leather legging at Target. That purchase was a direct reflection of these photos. I can finally fit into this leather skirt I got on ebay forever and a day ago. So after wearing this little bit of leather I kind of got a bee in my bonnet that I needed more. I can't afford a full fledged pair of leather pants and I don't think I want that kind of heaviness all over my legs. I found a nice compromise at Target. They will be on here soon!!

I really forced myself NOT to use all of my birthday money on CLOTHES. I don't want to do that. I have SO much that I don't even wear now that it is crazy. I did buy something for the house and some super moisturizing body oil so I can beat the winter dry skin that is to come!

My sweet hubs got me a pair of Maine Hunting Boots from LL Bean that I can't wait to wear. I have been obsessed with them for quite a while now. They have lingered on my Amazon wish list Christmas after Christmas. Now they are mine!! Yay!

All Dressed Up Girl

Top & Dress: Modcloth, Sandals & Belt: Thrifted

I was at the grocery store today and noticed the lady behind me looked just like the old mom from the original Psycho movie. The gray hair pulled back in the bun, the long dress, the glasses. All I could hear is Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates saying, "Mother!". I think maybe if you walk out of the house and you ask someone, "First impression, who do I look like?" and it ends up being someone that plays a dead person then, well, you are more adventourous then me. Although something tells me that might not have been what this little lady was going for. Bless it.
On another note, this day I felt like dressing up and getting a little frilly. All in the name of enjoying the last few days of summer.
