DIY {Curb Appeal - Mailbox Makeover}

Just wanted to share with you guys our curb side mailbox makeover!

Our mailbox was old and dilapidated and honestly, barely hanging on. The little red arm was long gone and the door barely closed. Pitiful! We think that someone might have backed into at some point. Either UPS or a neighbor. Anyway. We knew we needed a new box but we decided to give the whole area a facelift.


SAD:

We painted the post a earth-toned, warm, beige color. We bought a larger and more sturdier mailbox, a wine barrel and three plants. The three plants were actually three plants within itself. We cut the bottom out of the wine barrel and slipped it over the post. We did have to cut off the very tippy top of the post to squeak the barrel over it. But it was a great opportunity to add a solar light to the top! It ended up being a great thing that we didn't even consider in the beginning. I love seeing the light when I pull up at dusk.

Now, don't judge the weeds on the ground next to it. I literally just pulled these a few days ago and they are back. We have had SO much rain. Our future plans could be to build out a a rock wall with some weed prevention.

We added our street number to the post as well. That's why there is a little heart in the photo below :)

These little flowers are just exploding!

These flowers are annuals so they will die back, which will be heartbreaking because they are THRIVING!

DIY Dry Erase Board Wall

My hubby had a great idea to paint one of the walls in the office/craft room a dry erase board wall. I remember reading about a few others giving this a try so I figured I could do it too! We used Rust-Oleum and I used 2 cans for one whole wall. Typical, standard bedroom wall. 

Here's how it went down:

After 3 coats and then 3 days of drying it was done!

Hubby was happy about it!

I had some paint left over and you can't save it so I made my son a little board in his room. He was so excited when I showed it to him! I had no idea he would love it so much! I tied some long balloons together to make a border so he wouldn't draw on the regular wall paint.

And of course I had to find something else to paint. I painted a candle and painted a picture frame. The candle came out a little sloppy but no big deal. I love the frame. It's a great way to display the dinner menu. Since this photo, I've turned it the other way and have listed the whole week menu at one time. (Idea stolen from my cousin :)

In case your wondering, this stuff works! We did go ahead and buy the spray cleaner because on the can it mentions that you might need it. And it's true. Sometimes the eraser just doesn't quite get the pink and red colors off as nicely. Each can is about $20. I had to buy 2 and it was just the right amount plus some to play with!

DIY: Haunted House

I discovered an amazing little DIY over at Dollar Store Crafts where she took an old Christmas village house and turn it into a dark and creepy haunted house. I happened to be at the Goodwill (just happened to be there) on Saturday and sure enough, there were three discarded Christmas village houses that I knew would be perfect for our project. I knew that my son would really like this craft too so I grabbed all three of them. That way he could go wild on his and I could be more crafty with mine. (Control issues!)

And wow was I excited at the final result!!!

A real spooky house to add to the haunting effect of the rest of the house...more on that later!
