Saturday Hike Girl

The hubs, Josie and I went on a early hike Saturday morning. The air was crisp and cool when we started and warm and sunny when we finished. Josie loves her little fancy pink coat. I think it's pretty safe to say that she is shinin' bright like a diamond. This is her ready and raring to go:

pretty frosty

Let's go!

Such a pretty hike - it is an easy trail with a few inclines and rocks. It was perfect for us to get our feet wet and get some practice for a more challenging trail soon.

I wore thermal for my first layer, then a sweater and my Mountain Hardware jacket on top. A breathable scarf that wasn't too scratchy, some baggy jeans and my Hitec hiking boots. I was very comfortable for the hike. I did have a small raw spot on the back of my left foot. I will have to wrap that up with some moleskin next time to protect it. It might just be a rubbing spot on the boot. I did pick up a new pair of wool socks after the hike. Maybe that will help. I am looking at some low top Keen's that might be a little bit better, but I do like the high top for helping to not roll an ankle or, god forbid, a snake situation in the spring.

Tribal Girl

Sweater: Ebay, Jeans: Walmart, Mocs: Minnetonka

My son said "look at me mom!" while he was crawling under the bed from one side to the other. That's when I noticed a box of clothes poking out that I had forgotten about. This tribal sweater was laying on top and I was surprised that I hadn't missed it already. There were a few more items of interest in the box but not much. But I was glad that this guy reappeared. And I was glad my son did too.

The sunshine stayed around for another day so I made it out for some more photos. It is going to be fun to wear these little elvish mocs with some sundresses this summer.

Green Repeat Girl

After 5 days of rain I am exposing my pasty pale face to some sunshine. It feels pretty good I gotta tell ya. I haven't been able to grab a lot of pics because of the sloppy weather. Maybe in my next photos I won't be wearing green crochet. I do own other types of clothing surprisingly enough. I even got all gussied up on Wednesday for a conference at work and didn't even get a photo. Needless to say I was ready to take off the high heels at 10am. I have gotten accustomed to my flat boots in my old age.

My aunt posted on facebook the best description of how we were all feeling:

Ladies and gentlemen, exhibit A. One of those casual, comfortable outfits I was talking about in my last post. I feel totally myself and extremely comfortable. I like the new me.

Applique

Unexpected break from blogging, huh? December is not my favorite month and I feel like I am just now coming out from the fog of the holidays. Anyway...sometime before the holidays I noticed how I was on repeat at choosing very comfortable outfits to wear each day. That attitude coupled with the stress of the holidays led me to start looking at my wardrobe and really considering what I wanted to keep and what needed to go. Slowly, I started to gather up a dress here, a tee shirt there and before I knew it I had four or five garbage bags full that were on their way to be donated. Then came the shoes. I have probably cut my shoe collection in half. Let's just say, someone has been hitting pay dirt at the Goodwill finding all of the shoes I have donated. Some I had barely even worn, some were worn but maybe once or twice. Most were shoes that I were tired of suffering in. I'm done with feeling uncomfortably dressed, walking in uncomfortable shoes or being too cold because of poor fabric choices. SO, I say all of that why? Well, I don't know really. Basically I have simplified. I am getting back to the basics.

I found some basic skirts and what not at the thrift and consignment shops and I have been looking at how to spice them up with some DIY. I have been searching and looking for appliques. I found some very cute ideas on Pinterest of course and some nice ones on Etsy too.
