New Blog Design!

Hi everyone! I am so excited to have a fresh look here at A Day in the Life of One Girl! I owe it all to my wonderful husband that worked with me (I helped a little) on Saturday for over 6 hours tweaking and making this blog perfect. I am so pleased with the result.

THANK YOU SWEETIE!

I hope you all enjoy it!

Happier Girl

Outfit: Thrifted, Shoes: TomMcAnn

I believe my autumn depression is officially over. I've not felt one bit sad that fall is here this year. I used to dread it so much. Even the scents of fall in the air would make me a little nauseaous. I have really been working on myself lately from the inside out. I've been a part of a great group of men and ladies at one of my local churches for the past 3 months or so. I love the energy there. I know it has changed my life. Of course, God has had His hand in all of it as well. Honestly, I don't think I have ever been happier. WHA??? I know right?! Good stuff. I hope all of ya'll are doing good too. Cyber hug :)

What HE wore! Isn't he the cutest thing ever?

Happy Birthday

To my best friend:

You have held me close and you have given me courage.
You have been my shoulder to cry on and my confidant.
I am so very glad to be the one that can share another birthday with you.
I hope you have a beautiful day to match your beautiful spirit.

We can walk through this life together. With the love and strength of God we can do anything together. I am truly blessed to have such a tender and caring man as you, Brian.
You are my favorite

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Independence Day 2011

I had the best July 4th ever. Even though it has already come and gone, I still wanted to share my wonderful memories of last Monday. I am so happy and blessed with my beautiful family. I had a great time!!! Can't wait until next year!

First, we started with a July 4th parade in the tiny town of Montreat, NC. It was a quaint, adorable parade. The crowd shouted U-S-A! U-S-A!

I never miss the opportunity to wear red, white and blue. It is one of my most favorite color combos. Love love!

Dress, Earrings & Slip: Vintage, Belt: Thrifted, Hat: Target? Shoes: Etsy, Sunglasses: Dollar Store, Pin: Brian's

After the parade we gathered our energy for the walk back to the car. Unfortunately, these shoes gave me two horrid blisters after the hike in so I wasn't thrilled to give them another go on the way back. Oh well! No rest for the weary, I guess! We had to get to the pool....and have a picnic, of course.

We played in the pool for a while until we were a bit famished. Yummy sandwiches, ants on a log, goldfish, carrots and bananas were on the menu.

The lifeguard blew his whistle after an hour or so after we got back in because he heard some thunder. So we packed up a little earlier than expected but turns out it gave us some extra time to get ready for the festival and fireworks.

Lots of great things to do at the festival. Here is some fun with paints. I enjoyed this one myself. Maybe more than the bubble station? :)

 Riley took this one!

Riley got to jump in the bouncy house for what seemed to be hours. We drew pictures with chalk on the sidewalk and Riley had a little too much blue cotton candy.

He just had to get his face painted....twice!

We hung out at the festival until the sun started to set. Then we grabbed a few delicious hot dogs...and some ice cream(!) and headed down to the grass to toss down a blanket and enjoy the fireworks. I didn't quite get spectacular fireworks pics because they were too beautiful in real life to be behind the camera! Here are a few that I (and Riley) took throughout the show. I hope you had a good holiday weekend as well!

A Great Vacay

Saturday was festival day so we spent some time listening to beach music, drinking beer from plastic cups and looking at kitschy knickknacks from the street vendors. Later that night we took a stroll down to our favorite Irish pub that has become a favorite part of each voyage to the beach. We sat down on the back deck and let the ocean become our entertainment. Brian asked if we could catch the last bit of sunshine on the sand before it disappeared. Over the sand dunes and down onto the sand, Brian took off his shoes while I watched the ocean keep a steady pace. Rarely do I take in the current moment. I am mostly living two steps ahead with fuzzy memories of the past, at best. Memories that seem to escape me unless I put my life to music. Then they all seem to come rushing back at once with the break neck speed of a hurricane or tsunami. But at this moment, I remember forcing myself to stop. I watched the waves and listened to what was being said to me. Brian was telling me of his need for me and how I have become his best friend. I, of course, reciprocated each heart felt confession with one of my own. We nestled in each others arms; full of contentment and hope. I even mentioned that he had just said his vows to me and laughed at how easy it was. "See!" I said, "It could be that easy, ya know". We both laughed it off and walked back towards the dunes. Stopping to gather his shoes, he asked if I would like to build a sand castle. I, living two moments a head of this one, wondered why because I was getting hungry and I could bet a dollar he was starving. I chuckled and threw out a handful of words that meant something to the effect of "okayyyy..." Then I saw in his hand something shiny...and beautiful. I shrieked "Brian! Look at what you've found!" Immediately, I begin to think of the closest pawn shop. No silly. That diamond is for you. For me? Why?
Oh.
He was down on one knee as he placed the ring on my finger. He asked me if I would marry him.
Of course, I said.
His parents and son were waiting at a table on that back deck that we had ventured off of only a few minutes ago. They had stealthily made their way in without me noticing. But then again, I missed all of the other clues that had whizzed by me that day and night too. We ate dinner and enjoyed our new friend on my left hand.

Thank you Brian, for inviting me into your life and asking me to stay - forever.
I love you.

Weekend Roundup

Whew! So glad I have today off. This weekend was packed full. And I enjoyed every minute of it. I thought I would share it with you in pictures of course! Riley and I started out at Lake Lure with a picnic in the sand and wading in the cold cold water. It was (and I say this with great vigor) a Beautiful Day!

Arnold (the pig) and doggy both ate chips and a fudge round dessert. Then went to get washed off in the fountains.
Riley said the water was cold!
A cute little June Bug visitor....
And another visitor...

Later that evening we went over to some friends house for a Saturday night cookout

Sunday was LAFF (Lexington Avenue Arts & Fun Festival). A great time to be had by all!!! One of my most favorite festivals in Asheville. It's small, it's crazy and it's at the perfect time of year.

A little bit of face painting for Riley bug. He asked for a dinosaur but it kind of ending up like a dragon which is just as good!

and last but not least...my sweetie pie photographer and best friend...Brian, my love
