New Spring Sets at Aerie

I was on my way to Old Navy (or Target even) to film a try-on/dressing room session but at the last minute changed my mind. I started to think maybe Aerie would be a good place to check out because I couldn't remember the last time I had been there and I had been meaning to stop by for a while now.

I got overstimulated by all of the colors and fabrics immediately but quickly tried to focus on 3 outfits instead of trying on the whole store. 

I would call this first outfit poolside/beach wear or swim cover-up. The shorts were a little balloon-y for me so I would size down one from your normal size. (Remember - everything in Aerie is oversized)

Next up, this purple number. THIS was my favorite of the day. I love love love this "Solar Violet" color! I wish the pants would've been a little thicker. I personally feel they were a little thin to wear out of the house but they would be perfect for lounging.

This blue sweatshirt and matching sweatpants were the comfiest of the day. This set comes in about 6 colors I think? Some of the colors have decals or writing on them but not all of them. There was a hot pink/hot coral set that I really loved.

 I took a chance on this sherpa from Walmart (I was a little hesitant because it was only $10) and the chance paid off! 

Very warm! I did size up to an XXL so I could wear it with leggings and have it cover the back.

I'm tempted to get another one! There is one with a crazy geometric pattern that I love.

With my Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket, I finally had to just pull the trigger and spend it! I wasn't really interested in adding more clothes to my closet (that is literally bursting at the seams) so I went with the idea of a little home decor refresh. 

I was in the market for a few new items to dress up a rather empty hallway. I knew I wanted to add some color because, well, I'm just ready for color I guess. I've been mostly decorating with white and black in the living room and kitchen (it's just one open space) for several years. Now it's time for a change up!

I got two new pieces!

  A large green ombre macrame wall hanging and a pretty floral tapestry.

On the left side, I hung the macrame

I love it! I made sure to measure it so it would fit the space perfectly.

On the opposite side, I hung the loral tapestry. I love how the slight shades of green pick up the greens in the macrame.

So cute! I have a little bit of space at the end of the hallway that still needs to be filled. I would love to do some textured pieces...maybe some flat woven art of some sort. I'm going to check the thrift stores for some ideas too.

A Madonna Podcast Appreciation Post

 A few days ago, I was listening to one of my new favorite podcasts, Hot Takes and Deep Dives.  Jess, the host, had two guests on who have their own podcast, All I Want 2 Do Is Talk About Madonna.

And let me tell you, ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS TALK ABOUT MADONNA.

And I love it.

Needless to say after listening to Jess, Mark, and Kenny have a super fun conversation about all things Madonna, I immediately went and subscribed to Mark and Kenny's podcast 

(by the way, I use Overcast for my podcast listening. Highly recommend!)

Here's the deal. 

They are in it to win it. They are covering every song from every album one by one. 

Like, wait. What?!

Yep, every single one. They are currently on Season 5! I had no idea how much I needed this podcast in my life. I scrolled for what felt like 2 hours to get to the bottom of the page so I could start from the very beginning. I love being a completist.

The first album, the first song on side one: Lucky Star. (Remember when you used to have to flip the cassette over to get to side 2?)

I am having so much FUN.

They go song by song and chat about everything you can imagine about the song/album (even tours!). They get into what was going on at the time, where Madonna was in her development, who she was working with or dating, and any additional super fun tidbits of juicy info. I seem to be about their same age so I can relate. You can tell Mark and Kenny are lifelong fans and know exactly what they are talking about. Man! They have their sh&t together! Very organized, succinct short episodes that are packed with fun and details.

It's like I am wrapping up in a warm, nostalgic, teenage blanket and it feels so comforting. I've made it to episode 29 which is Where's the Party from her True Blue album. Ain't no stopping me now! I'm even watching the tours on youtube. I highly recommend it if you are needing something fun in your life.

Walk, Run: Hoka

New year new walking/running shoes! I have unbelievably flat feet and I fell in love with these Hoka tennis shoes. I had completely worn out my previous pair so I was very excited to get a fresh pair. 

Bright purples and bright blues make my soul happy!! 

Highly recommend Hokas if you have flat feet like me, or don't, and want a super comfortable walking & running experience.

The top coat works amazing! Someone I follow on Instagram recommended it so I gave it a try and it works! As for the mini box cutter in the shape of a strawberry - well, it works amazing too! So much easier than opening up boxes with the kitchen scissors.

Book Review: Dark Matter

 

I wanted to step out of my comfort zone a little bit for 2024 and explore some other genres in my reading. I had heard great things about this book by Blake Crouch, but I was a little apprehensive because it was being labeled as science fiction and I haven't read science fiction... maybe ever? I do love watching sci-fi shows so I knew if I could just find the right book I would be fine.

So when my husband and I decided to take a 48-hour digital detox the weekend before New Year's Day we needed a book we could read together. It was the perfect push I needed to get started on Dark Matter.

Honestly, right from the start, I was intrigued. I loved this book from the beginning, which was a relief because I was afraid that the subject matter would be too over my head or too complicated to carry a good plot. I had to stop myself from reading late into the night! I wanted to keep a relatively close pace with the hubby so I held back a little bit the first day. 

But by the second day, we were both sailing through this one!
Our main character, Jason, stumbles into a world he doesn't recognize and he can't quite remember how he got there. He is a college physics professor who has a relatively comfortable life with thoughts we all have about our past like, what if I would've chosen path A instead of path B?

The author takes us step by step, chapter by chapter telling us what choices Jason made that got him to this point.

Personally, I loved the pace of this book and I also feel like the ending was satisfying.

Highly recommend! 5 Stars!
