Walkabout Downtown

For walkabouts I need comfy shoes, comfy pants and a cute top. Tada!
The little white lacey tank was a thrift store find from years ago and the jeans are some of the most comfortable jeans I've ever owned. I got them at Target a few years back and I wish I had them in all colors. I love a comfy shoe that is also a little quirky and fun. Teva Flatforms are perfect!

Have you Had Boba Tea?

The first time I ever had bubble tea I really didn't like it. Come to find out, our first sip just was from a place that basically had some poorly made teas. So we set out to find some good boba tea.

When we visited Aloha Cafe a few months ago we decided to take the plunge and make a Boba Tea order to go with our Poke bowls. I ordered a Thai Boba Tea and it was...delicious! Now, I had Thai Tea several times over the years whenever we would go out for Thai food. So I knew I would love the taste. This time I went for brown sugar boba pearls instead of a fruity bubble tea flavor. I think that's when I found my perfect order because I am more of a fan of brown sugar boba than a fruity flavor.

A little while later, I found out that there was a boba tea truck called Bluebird Boba Tea around town (they now have a brick and mortar store!) We ended up tracking them down one day and made an order.

My first order was a double cup with one side Taro flavor and the other side Thai. It was perfect!!! We are now fully addicted

We've been back SEVERAL times since then! The purple is Taro flavor, then Strawberry, and my son loves the Sakura Rose flavor!

Shanghai Dumpling House Asheville NC

Remember when I told you a few months back that I planned to incorporate new food adventures in our homeschool year as a fun addition to those field trips that some kids like to call "boring" field trips? I wanted to try some new (to us) places around town that showcased different types of cuisines. Or at least ones that my 15 year old hadn't eaten.

Our 1st stop was at Aloha Cafe to try their poke bowls and they were WONDERFUL.

Our 2nd stop on the Black Bear Academy Culinary Field Trip was Shanghai Dumpling House which was also WONDERFUL! Two for Two!

First up, Pork Steamed Buns

These were so very tasty. Thick dumplings with the most delicious sauce of the day.

Second was a classic dish of Pan Fried Chicken Dumplings.

Probably the dumpling that is the crowd pleaser. I don't know how anyone could hate a fried dumpling.

And finally, Soup Dumplings!
These packed a nice little surprise because when you bite into it, there is delicious broth inside the dumpling.

10/10 recommend!

Edgy and Delicate

I love to mix a little bit of edge to it with something more delicate like this lace top.

Happy Clothes

Do you have clothes that just make you feel HAPPY when you put them on? This tie dye sweatshirt does that for me!

A Little Spring

Broke out LOTS of thrifted things for this spring look a few weekends ago.

Neutral Zone

I was on the hunt for some neutral or beige or brownish type sneakers that I could wear when I just wasn't feeling white or black sneakers. There was a popular Madewell pair that was around $100 but I really didn't want to spend THAT much on a sneaker I was only going to wear from time to time. I found these Sketchers for a great price and they are comfy. They work!

Night Out

I wanted to be 1) WARM and 2) able to walk a bit on our night out a couple of weeks ago in the big city (lol).

Weekend Getaway - Downtown Asheville

Sometimes a weekend getaway in your own hometown is just what you need. We took this little staycation to really focus on the little things we like to do together. Go to coffee shops, eat pastries, read books, window shop and just be in the city. It was a rainy weekend so it wasn't very crowded - which was GREAT - and it made it perfect for sipping cappuccinos.

We stayed one night at The Cambria and got a great view out to the Grove Arcade. It was delightful people watching and would be perfect spot for reading a book.

First stop was Rowan Coffee. I've been wanting to try this place and after all was said and done we loved this little moody spot the most.

The Times Bar is beautiful, fancy and sexy! It makes for a better spot for a cocktail than a long visit for coffee. We loved it though.

Next stop was The Rhu for breakfast. Their bakery items are probably some of THE best downtown. I wanted one of everything but I went with this DELICIOUS blueberry fruit tart. OH my.
We stayed a while and just talked about current events and watched the rain fall.

I was ready to get settled into a coffee shop where we could spread out and stay for the long haul. Sessions Cafe is PERFECT for that. Here we can go upstairs at our favorite table and I can unpack my bag. I like to bullet journal, people watch, read my book on one of their comfy couches and cruise instagram.
They have delicious soups and sandwiches too. I had a little cup of their vegan chili and a piece of a sugar cookie that was AMAZING!

We checked into the hotel around 3:00 and got ready for dinner (fish n' chips) and a comedy show at Asheville Beauty Academy. I've been curious about this spot (used to be Tressa's for those of you that are old timers like me) and wanted to check it out. It was exactly what I was hoping it would be and the comedy show was hilarious, as it should be.

Sunday morning we hit up Tupelo Honey for breakfast (I got the eggs benny) and refueled to do some casual shopping. We checked out and headed home! I was ready to go home and get bundled up under some blankets and get WARM!!!

In case you want to come to AVL or have landed here just out of curiosity of our little town, I have a video of the weekend over on my insta! Check it out!

Let me know if you've got any questions! I love to give recommendations if you are looking to visit.
